Oxford, Regents participate in the Tupelo Volleyfest

TUPELO – The Oxford Lady Chargers and the Regents Lady Lions participated in the 21st Tupelo Volleyfest hosted by the Tupelo Volleyball team. A total of 12 teams participated in the event. Oxford made it to the Championship match where they lost in three sets to the host Tupelo Lady Wave.

Oxford went 2-1 in their pool play games, a good enough record to advance into bracket play. Oxford defeated New Albany 2-0 (25-22, 25-12), lost to Starkville 2-0 (25-23, 25-23), and then defeated Olive Branch 2-1 (18-25, 25-20, 15-7). In bracket play, Oxford first defeated Amory 2-1 to advance to play Caledonia. Oxford then defeated Caledonia 2-0 to advance to the Championship match against Tupelo. Tupelo was able to defeat Oxford 2-1 (25-20, 26-27, 15-8) to win their own Volleyfest. Oxford made it to the final match despite having several of their players including regular starters out due to having to quarantine from COVID-19.

Regents went 1-2 in pool play, but their record was not enough to advance into bracket play. Regents lost to Amory and Caledonia but defeated the New Albany JV squad to finish their day with a win.

Regents’ next game will be a short road trip on Tuesday to Water Valley. JV will start at 5:00 p.m. while Varsity will start at 6:00 p.m.

Oxford will host Tupelo on Tuesday in their next match. JV will start at 5:30 p.m. with Varsity starting at 6:30 p.m.
