Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office urges residents to make rural addresses easy to find

The Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office encouraged residents to make their properties easier for deputies, firefighters and ambulance crews to find during an emergency, particularly in rural areas with long driveways or homes that are not visible from the road.

The office advised residents to place a clearly visible address marker at the road where the driveway begins. It also recommended displaying the house number clearly on the home so it can be seen once responders reach the property.

The Sheriff’s Office said residents can improve visibility by using reflective numbers or adequate lighting. Grass, bushes and other obstructions should be kept from covering address markers, according to the notice.

For homes set far back from the road, behind trees or down long driveways, the office recommended marking the address at both the road and the house. Residents were encouraged to check whether someone unfamiliar with their property could find it quickly in an emergency.
