Lafayette County man charged with grand larceny in trailer theft case

Lafayette County deputies responded to a trailer theft on Highway 6 West in June, according to a news release from the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office. Investigators identified Joseph Gatewood, 41, of Sardis, Mississippi, as the suspect in the case.

On June 11, authorities obtained a warrant for Gatewood’s arrest on charges of grand larceny. He was arrested in Panola County on Aug. 8 and transferred to the Lafayette County Detention Center on Aug. 11, the sheriff’s office said.

Gatewood was later issued a $5,000 bond by a Lafayette County Justice Court judge. The sheriff’s office thanked other agencies and individuals who assisted with the investigation. All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law, officials added.
