Oxford police arrest suspect in bank robbery within two hours
Oxford police arrested a suspect in connection with a bank robbery on Jan. 21. Officers responded to a call around 9:30 a.m. reporting the robbery on the 1600 block of Jackson Avenue.
Authorities canvassed the area and began gathering security footage from the bank and nearby businesses. An officer located the suspect near a business on Heritage Drive and took him into custody without incident.
The suspect was identified as Paul McCarty, 61, of Ocean Springs, Mississippi. He was charged with armed robbery and is scheduled to appear before a municipal court judge for his initial bond hearing.
Chief Jeff McCutchen praised the department’s teamwork, noting that officers, investigators, dispatchers, and staff worked together to apprehend the suspect within two hours. The department also thanked the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office and University Police for their assistance, as well as the community for their cooperation.
