Oxford Police respond swiftly to school threat, identify juvenile suspect

The Oxford Police Department responded promptly after a threat was made against Oxford Middle School overnight. School Resource Officers and investigators quickly identified a juvenile responsible for the threat, and charges have been filed, according to police.

Chief Jeff McCutchen emphasized the department’s stance, saying, “If you make a threat against one of our schools, we are going to find you. It does not matter if you call it a joke, a prank, or a trend. The moment you make a threat, you have crossed a serious line, and our officers and investigators will take it from there.”

Police urged parents and guardians to monitor their children’s phones and online activity, and to discuss the consequences of online behavior. They also encouraged reporting concerning content immediately.

The Oxford Police Department and the Oxford School District plan to host an online safety class for parents soon. Details will be shared on social media. Authorities reiterated that there is currently no threat to Oxford Middle School or its students and staff.

Officials reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining a safe learning environment and will continue working closely with the school district to prevent threats and ensure safety.
