Scammers impersonate sheriff’s office to target residents with fake jury duty alerts

Law enforcement officials are warning residents about scam calls impersonating the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office and other officials. The scammers notify individuals they have jury duty, but authorities emphasize that no one is contacted by phone or electronic means about jury service.

The Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office states that legitimate jury duty notices are only sent through the mail. If a person receives a phone call or electronic message claiming to be from law enforcement or court officials and they have not received a physical letter, it is a scam.

Officials advise residents to be cautious and avoid sharing personal information over the phone. They urge anyone who suspects a scam to report it to local authorities to help prevent further incidents.
