School Year Begins Tomorrow, Officials Urge Caution on Roads

Law enforcement officials are urging drivers to exercise caution as students head back to school tomorrow. Increased bus traffic and children walking to bus stops are expected across the area, according to the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office.

Drivers are advised to slow down, stay alert, and follow safety tips to protect students. These include stopping when a school bus extends its stop arm and activates flashing red lights, slowing down in school zones, and eliminating distractions such as phone use while driving.

Officials also recommend that drivers be vigilant for children near bus stops, especially during morning and afternoon hours. They advise leaving a few minutes earlier to reduce rushing and ensure safety.

Parents are reminded to instruct children to wait in safe locations, stay out of the roadway, and look both ways before crossing. Sheriff’s deputies will be patrolling throughout the county to promote safety as the new school year begins.
