Lafayette, Regents competes at South Pontotoc Meet

PONTOTOC – Both the Regents Lions and the Lafayette Commodores cross country teams competed in a 5K meet at South Pontotoc Thursday afternoon. Regents finished fifth out of seven teams in the Class 1A-3A boys division and had five members place in the top 30, where each runner received a t-shirt for their placement. Lafayette finished seventh out of 12 teams in the Class 4A-6A boys division and fourth out of 12 teams in their girls division. The top 40 in those divisions received t-shirts for their placement. The Lady ‘Dores had three place in the top 40 while Bralen Williams managed to place one for the boys.

For Regents, seventh-grader Joseph Skogen led the Lions with an 11th place finish (21:25.41), eighth-grader Samuel Bryan finished 20th (22:56.38) while brother Tristan Bryan finished right behind him in 21st (23:00.34). Seventh-grader George Haymans (29th, 23:51.63) and junior Rhodes Scott (30th, 24:11.14) rounded out the top 30 finishers.

For the Lafayette Lady Commodores, sophomore Mia Dawson placed second overall with a time of 20:17.72, finishing eight seconds shy of the winner. Sophomore Caroline Wilson (17th, 23:25.74) and freshmen Della Shackelford (26th, 24:22.30) also placed for the Lady ‘Dores. Scoring in the meet as well was junior Ella Shelton (46th, 26:01.00) and junior Valerie Smith (50th, 26:18.65)

For the Lafayette boys, Williams led the team finishing in 26th with a time of 19.27.65, earning a top finish t-shirt. Other members who scored in the meet was junior Lisandro Escobedo (58th, 21:44.72), sophomore Bryson Beltran (94th, 24:16.09), junior James Browning (104th, 24:50.22), and sophomore Issac Delira-Reyes (114th, 25:25.20)
