Mississippi Public Safety Department opens new consolidated headquarters

The Mississippi Department of Public Safety officially opened its new headquarters, bringing all divisions under one roof for the first time in the agency’s history. The facility aims to enhance collaboration and improve service to residents of the state, according to a statement from the department.

During the ceremony, officials expressed gratitude to Governor Tate Reeves, the Mississippi Legislature, Lieutenant Governor Delbert Hosemann, Speaker Philip Gunn, Eley Guild Hardy Architects, Andercorp, the Department of Finance and Administration, and the department’s staff for making the project possible.

The department also honored the family of David Huggins, a former Mississippi Highway Patrol colonel and department commissioner. The new building bears his name in recognition of his service and leadership, which helped shape the agency’s development, officials said. Huggins served as colonel from 1988 to 1992 and as commissioner from 2000 to 2004.

Department leaders called the occasion a proud day for MDPS and for Mississippi, emphasizing the importance of the new facility in supporting their mission.
