Oxford police warn residents about fake court order text scam

Oxford police issued a warning Monday about a scam targeting local residents. Victims are receiving fake text messages claiming to be court orders that demand payment for traffic violations, according to authorities.

Police said these messages are not legitimate. Courts do not collect fines through text messages or QR codes. Residents are advised to be cautious and avoid clicking links or making payments in response to these messages.

The warning comes as tax refunds are being deposited into accounts and scam season peaks, police said. Authorities urged the public to stay alert and report any suspicious activity. The Oxford Police Department provided a contact number, 662-232-2400, for reporting scams or seeking more information.
